Continue to develop member services
As Chair of CPA’s Services and Benefits committee I oversaw 6 different committees. We began to develop ways to enhance the benefits for members. We now offer discounted rates on home, auto, and renter’s insurance coverage for members. I will continue to seek ways to create services to meet the membership’s needs. In addition, I helped in the development of a graduated dues structure for Early Career Psychologists.

Develop stronger ties among Chapters and Divisions
As the Diversity Taskforce chair, I have worked hard to collaborate with all divisions and chapters. In order for CPA to become more relevant to all California psychologists, we have to coordinate our efforts. Offering dual membership discounts to all of our members is important. I will continue to push for a plan and structure that allows our members across the state to benefit from local, division, and state membership.

Protect the practice of psychology through public education
We need to increase public knowledge about psychological services. I have already begun discussions with the APA Public Education Campaign office to potentially develop chapter outreach programs in local communities throughout California. As a past Chair of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award for the CPA, I will continue to support and enhance this program as another avenue to educate the public and businesses.

Solidify CPA’s presence legislatively
We need to continue to work with key legislatures to protect psychology’s agenda. I have begun discussions with various ethnically based psychological associations and with the APA’s Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs to find outside resources to fund our annual leadership and advocacy conference each year. We need to strengthen CPA’s Advocacy and Leadership Conference as a way to mentor new leaders and build community with others outside CPA.

Prescription Privileges
I believe that psychologists should attain the authority to prescribe psychotropic medications for their clients. Prescriptive authority for psychologists provides safe and quality access to health care for our clients and eliminates the need to see more than one service provider. I support the mission of the newly formed Division V of CPA and their efforts to move this agenda forward.

Add Diversity to CPA leadership
We need to make CPA relevant to our ethnic/racial and academic colleagues. I am working with ethnically based associations and local communities towards this end. In addition, I would like CPA to broaden its appeal to our academic colleagues in the state. As Diversity Taskforce Chair I am working with colleagues on developing an on-line CE course in Multicultural Diversity.

Students & Early Career Psychologists (ECPs)
I will continue to support our CPAGS student group. ECPs are another group with whom we could develop more dialogue with as they transition from student to professional. I propose that we develop an ECP taskforce within the Association. Every committee, division, and chapter in CPA could have an ECP as a member.

Honoring our Elders
I am also concerned about our colleagues who are close to, or have already retired. There is much knowledge and experience that CPA needs to utilize and support. I will develop a program to utilize our elders and honor their commitment to the association and field.

Sustain and build the financial security of the association
I will work towards continuing to partner with our chapters and divisions in generating non-dues revenues. This can be accomplished through CE workshops, developing online courses and resources for psychologists, and by developing a referral database for public and professional use. With greater financial means, CPA could hire a marketing, PR, and membership specialist to grow the organization.

Increase and support CPA central office
I want to ensure that the CPA retains our hardworking staff members in our central office and rewards them for the work they do. In addition, I would like to hire an individual whose primary responsibility is marketing and membership development. I am committed to finding ways to ask less of our members by providing more in return. This can be accomplished by coming together collaboratively with our chapters and divisions in developing a marketing and membership plan for the state.

Further Develop our Colleague Assistance Program (CLASP)
We have the education and knowledge about what constitutes healthy behaviors. However, we are professionally socialized to give to others, which often take precedence over caring for ourselves. I want to make sure that CPA members feel supported professionally by the Association. In collaboration with CLASP, I will continue to develop this service for our members who are in need.
